Review of the LED Rain Gauge
For people who love to garden or farm, rain can be a blessing. But even though water is a necessity of life, too much rain can be a problem. Serious farmers and gardeners know the importance of keeping track of rainfall, and various rain gauges can let you monitor the amount of rain that has fallen. The LED Rain Gauge makes this easier than ever by displaying rainfall data on a bright LED screen.
Technology meets nature
A variety of LED Rain Gauges are available today. These devices have a row of collection funnels (water traps) with a light emitting diode (LED laser) and a photo detector in an enclosed space below the funnels. When enough rainwater has accumulated to make a single drop, it drips from the funnel and falls into the laser beam's path. The sensor is set at right angles to the laser so that any beam that is scattered is detected as a sudden flash of light. The device then reads the flashes from the photo detector and transmits them to a wireless receiver.
The LED Rain Gauge can display the accumulated rainfall data in inches or millimeters. It can also wirelessly transmit rainfall data from the remote rain gauge to the main unit as far as 100 feet (~ 30 meters) away. The LED Rain Gauge is fully programmable and comes with many useful features including a 24-hour clock, temperature display, and hourly, daily and weekly rainfall history. The device can easily be mounted on a wall or simply placed on a desk. The device also has a light for nighttime viewing. The LED Rain Gauge operates on AA batteries.
