Printing Text and Pictures
It was time to check the real capability of the printer. First, I tried to print a page filled with text and diagrams. I chose black and white mode. Before clicking the print button, I put some A4 size 120gm offset papers in the paper tray. The paper tray seemed flimsy compared to the rest of the unit. It felt easily breakable to me. Anyway, I pressed the print button. The printer took about ten seconds to warm up, made some noises and then printed the page in four seconds.
I put a sample paper into the tray to print a photograph I took a few days ago. It took almost 90 seconds to print the photograph. The quality was reasonably good. This time, it made less noise than it did during the first print.
I was satisfied with the basic printing features. I tried the automatic two-sided (duplex) printing feature. I clicked on the '2-sided' button (just under the display) and it printed out two pages of text on either side of the paper. This is a nice feature because it can save 50% of pages, as Epson claims in the manual. It took about 10 seconds to do the two-sided printing. The auto document feeder can hold 30 pages at once, which reduces the need to load paper frequently.

Scanning, Photocopying and More
Next, I tried out the scanner and scanned the picture I had printed earlier. With 48 bit depth of scanning and 2400x2400 dpi, it scanned and reproduced the picture almost flawlessly. It took about 25 seconds to scan the picture, including its warm up session. The photocopy function took a total of 18 seconds to scan and print a page.
Setting up the fax system was easy, but setting up speed dial was rather irritating. The printer lets you store 60 numbers for speed dialing, but you have to program each number manually by pressing keys on your printer's control panel. That is a tedious task.
After the initial tests on the basic features, I went back to printing again. This time I tried envelope printing. The paper tray can hold ten envelopes at a time. Well, here I faced some problems. I had to remove the tray and take out my normal paper to adjust the spacer. Then I had to put the tray back in place again. That was kind of a pain. And once the envelope printed properly, I had to undo all that work to get back in regular paper printing mode. This may really become annoying if you have to print envelopes on a regular basis.
