Review of the spiderArm Mobile Mount Adapter for iPad 1, 2 and 3
The spiderArm Mobile Mount Adapter is a meticulously designed mounting system that is compatible with the iPad 1, 2 or 3. You can use it for secure, permanent mounting on places like your desktop, kitchen cupboard, or tabletop, or you can use it on the go. The versatile design combined with a range of mounting options makes it a great mobile mount adapter for the iPad 1, 2 and 3.
Design and features
The spiderArm adapter gives you lots of options for mounting. It comes with two different base parts: a three-way versaMount base with a removable c-clamp, and the surfaceMount base.
versaMount allow you to mount your iPad just about anywhere, such as on your table, desk, or countertop. Removing the c-clamp makes it an L-shaped plate that is perfect for wall mounting. If you remove the metal screw base plate, the versaMount works as a wall and table edge mount. The other base option is the surfaceMount, which works best for permanent placement.
The spiderArm comes with three different anodized aluminum arms. You can use them separately or all at once depending on your needs. The baseArm is 18.75 inches long and has a 45-degree angle bend. The midArm is 18.125 inches long and the short arm (the one that makes spiderArm portable) is 8.25 inches long. It has a ball joint connection knob for easier installation. The arms, knobs, threads, and screws are sturdy and have an attractive piano key white color.
The spiderArm’s secure snap case is the most important part as it holds your iPad. Sadly, it is also the weakest part, unless you do not intend to remove the case too often.
Multiple mounting options and arm combinations give the user the freedom to use iPad 1, 2 or 3 at practically any angle or orientation (horizontal or vertical view). This can help prevent eye strain when you’re watching movies, browsing the Internet, or playing games. We especially liked that it can be mounted below the kitchen cupboard, which is great for when you are working in the kitchen; it makes it easy to read a recipe or watch a movie while you are cooking a favorite meal.
But the best part of the spiderArm is that if you use it with the surfaceMount and the short arm, it turns into a portable stand/case combo for your iPad 1, 2 or 3. You can take it anywhere and keep it above spill level. You can easily use it in your car or on a train or plane. To use it on the go, you may need a 3-inch cup holder to hold the base. You may also use other objects as long as that object can hold the base tightly.
The spiderArm has an intuitive design. The option to use a single arm or combination of arms gives the user flexibility to use their iPad anyway they like. It is made of sturdy, quality materials. The spiderArm costs $49.99. HomeGear Lab gives it the highest rating, 4 Lights On.
