Intellinet Wireless 450N Router

Intellinet wireless 450N Gigabit router is a dual band router.

Review of the Intellinet Wireless 450N Dual-Band Gigabit Router

by Claudio Duarte

Intellinet wireless 450N Gigabit router is a dual band router. It gives an access point and provides two bands (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) of wireless connectivity simultaneously. It operates as a wireless bridge, a wireless repeater, and a WDS repeater. It also has four Gigabit ports for LAN connectivity. Furthermore, it offers a secure wireless connection, an integrated firewall, and content control. That is a generous package of features for a current, mainstream router.

Design and look

The box of Intellinet Wireless 450N Dual-Band Gigabit router contains the 450N Gigabit Router, a power adapter, a RJ45 cable, a user manual and an installation disk. The Intellinet Wireless 450N Gigabit router has three antennas, 3dBi each. That means better wireless signal strength and better range of the wireless network. It has an intuitive design with the front panel displaying indicative LED lights. The rear panel is equipped with the power input port, a WAN port, four Ethernet ports, a radio switch to turn wireless connection on or off, and a WPS reset switch. Although it has an attractive case design, that does not sacrifice simplicity nor effectiveness.

Installation and Performance

We quickly installed the router by following the WAN connection wizard and the web-based user interface of Intellinet. We easily connected multiple network-ready devices through the routerís wireless network.

I connected a desktop computer, laptop, wireless printer, iPhone 4, and iPad 2 through the routerís wireless network. The Internet connection was stable. Simultaneously, I ran some huge downloads, made a long VOIP call, and kept all devices busy transferring and receiving files. Data transfer was smooth and quicker than I expected.

The Intellinet router has two wireless sender-receiver units that run both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz (thus the term "DUAL-Band"). Regarding signal strength, Intellinetís 3T3R or 3 stream 802.11n technology proved its worth. I had a stable connection with full signal strength even when using an iPad 2 40 feet outside the building. The speed of file transfer via wireless internet was reduced when we used a 128-bit WEP encryption instead of 64-bit. 128-bit encryption is more secure than 64-bit. Also, 256-bit encryption is quickly becoming standard for current routers. This router supports a wide range of wireless security protocols: WPA TKIP, WPA2 AES, WPA2 mixed and WPA radius. You can also control user access of content using the MAC (media access control) filter.

The Intellinet 450N Dual-Band router is a powerful and high performance device. It has more than enough capabilities and features for the typical SOHO network. We recommend the Intellinet 450N Gigabit router for high-speed, heavy-duty wireless connectivity.
