Review of the Intellinet NSC11-WN network camera

Overview

The Intellinet NSC11-WN network camera is a low-cost video surveillance solution for small office/home security. Since it is a network camera, it does not need any DVR or NVR for recording video. It can transfer recorded data or stream real-time data over the network. Thus, you will not need any device other than the camera to capture and store the video in motion JPEG or MPEG4 format on your computer. You can also set it to send you automated snapshots according to a schedule, or in case it detects motion.

The retail package of the Intellinet NSC11-WN included the following: an NSC11-WN network camera, a power adapter, an Ethernet cable, a quick installation guide, a wall mount, CD-ROM containing driver software, and a user manual.

Product design

The cameraís front has LED lights for indicating power and link status. The rear of the camera has a LAN jack, power adapter input jack, and tripod connector. The overall design is simple but effective.

Installation and features

I easily installed the network camera by following the instructions found on the CD-ROM and user manual. First, I inserted one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN jack at the back of the camera and the other end into my routerís jack. The camera was detected on my network after a few seconds. I installed the driver using the CD-ROM. After the installation was completed, I opened Internet Explorer and typed in a previously set IP address of the camera. The browser prompted to run an add-on, which I downloaded and installed. After I restarted my browser and typed in the IP address in the address bar, my camera started to run a live feed of me working on the computer.

After exploring the menus, I changed the network connection from LAN to WLAN through the WLAN menu. I was then able to remotely access my network camera through my laptop and iPhone. The connection was stable and fast and the streamed video was clear.

NSC11-WN is a network camera, it can transfer recorded data or stream real-time data over the network.
