Review of the iHome Armo IH-5P211 case for iPhone 5
The iHome Armo IH-5P211 is an extreme heavy-duty case for the iPhone 5. It offers easy access to all ports and features while giving protection against accidental drops, impact, water splashes, dust, and debris. It comes with a built-in anti-glare screen protector and a kickstand that lets the user operate the phone hands-free in both portrait and landscape modes.
The iHome Armo IH-5P211 case is available in seven different colors: yellow, green, grey, orange, blue, pink, and red. We tested the orange one, which looks great on our black iPhone 5. The iHome Armo is made of rubber and plastic materials. The bottom part of the case has a clamp on each side and a slot on the back where the kickstand can be tucked in. The iHome Armo IH-5P211 comes fully assembled. Taking it apart is simple, and it only takes a moment to insert and seal up your iPhone.
The piece that attaches to the back side of the phone has double layers of protection. A soft, rubbery plastic sheet inside this part ensures extra protection against scratches or smudges that an accidental drop could make on the iPhone 5's back. Once you have placed the iPhone 5 into the bottom part, you flip closed the anti-glare screen protector. The screen protector is high quality and does not diminish the brightness, color, or quality of the iPhone 5's display. Then you just place the top part over the phone's front and use the bottom piece's three clamps to attach it tightly with the top part. Once everything is in place, the case looks like high-tech armor on your phone, much like the fancy gadgets you might see in a sci-fi movie.
Trying it out
The case gives easy access to all ports and switches except for the ringer/mute switch. Three of the four clamps on the case play double roles – they keep the case together and serve as port covers. The case comes with its own buttons for on/off, home, and volume control. The buttons are attractive and work well. The case has openings for the microphone, speakers, and front and back cameras.
Just like most extreme heavy-duty cases, the iHome Armo fully covers the area where iPhone 5's antenna is located, yet we did not suffer any network problems when using the phone with the case. The buttons on the case worked perfectly every time, and the phone's overall performance was unchanged. The iHome Armo gives your phone protection if you drop the phone into a bucket of water.
One annoyance we noticed during use of the iHome Armo was that it makes your ear hurt if you press the case against your ear for a long time. This is due to uneven surface and ridges on the top part of the case. On the positive side, the iHome does not catch lint and it slips easily in and out of your pocket. In conclusion, the iHome Armo is an attractive heavy-duty case that provides the iPhone5 with amazing protection against accidental drops and impact. iHome Armo is a good choice for those who are prone to dropping their phones. Last but not the least, iHome Armo does not degrade the iPhone 5's performance. Attaching and removing the case is a breeze, and the case gives easy access to the iPhone 5's buttons and functions. HomeGear gives it its highest rating: 4 Lights On: Excellent and Highly Recommended.
