Review of the Docupen portable color scanner - RC800
"Take me with you"
Light-weight, compact, flexible, portable and affordable. That is the best way to describe the DocuPen RC800 portable scanner by Planon Systems. With this scanner, there are no limits to the places you can go and scan documents. Throw this pen-sized, full-featured scanner into your bag, and away you go.
More uses than you (or James Bond) can count
The DocuPen RC800 has the ability to scan just about any document including - but definitely not at all limited to - newspapers, magazines, reference materials, music, books, passports or other picture IDs, receipts, contracts, drawings, sketches, blueprints and maps. Basically, it allows you to scan color documents or pictures of any kind and send them to the Paperport software, which is included with the DocuPen.
This is the perfect scanner for mobile people, like James Bond, who use their vehicle as their home office and may need to discreetly scan a secret document. But even if you don't need to do covert operations, the DocuPen is ideal for any job that takes you to places where you need to quickly and efficiently record documents. You could use it at the courthouse, or the property appraiser's office, or just to scan a magazine article and save it or send it to friends.
This is a standout product that you don't need to be 007 to obtain.
Different than the others
This device is very different from the competition. This portable scanner has the memory capacity to store hundreds of full-width pages, including text and graphics, into memory in black and white, standard color, or high-quality 24-bit color with resolutions from 100 dpi to 400 dpi in as little as four seconds.
The DocuPen features a dual-roller guiding system which makes it easier to scan smoothly and accurately. In addition, it has optical registration technology that allows it to create a highly accurate scan using its optical timing.
Using the Docupen takes a little practice as it incorporates a movement sensor that helpfully lets you know if you are moving too fast and affecting the image quality of the scan. Unfortunately, the sensor tends to be over-sensitive, and a slight pause may stop the scan and download even if the image is not finished. The steadiness of your swipe determines the image quality and completeness.
The DocuPen RC800 is a useful and convenient portable scanner that is perfect to use anywhere and anytime.
