Review of the DigiPower - Jumpstart Travel Charger

Portable chargers have become essential equipment these days. Most of us have cell phones, mp3 players, GPS devices, handheld gaming units, Bluetooth earphones, and so on. Whether you are taking a road trip, going on vacation or working at the office, having a portable charger on hand can save you from lots of headaches by keeping your devices charged and ready. Of course, you need a charger that can serve its purpose properly and reliably.

DigiPower Jumpstart Specs

The DigiPower Jumpstart Travel Charger box contains the following items: a charger unit, an a/c adapter, a retractable power cable, carrying case, carabineer clips, seven different connector tips, and a manual.

According to the official specifications in the manual, this travel charger weighs 6.6 oz. and is small enough (2.5" x 1.25" x 0.5") to carry in your pocket comfortably. This particular travel charger has an attractive design, but performance and reliability are more important than looks when you are dealing with a travel charger.

The good thing about this travel charger is that you can safely buy it without worrying about compatibility issues, because it supports almost any USB devices available today. You can use it to charge iPhones, BlackBerrys, HTC and other select mobiles, iPads and pocket cameras. The DigiPower Jumpstart can charge handheld game consoles that have USB/DC power cords (such as the PSP); however, if you have Nintendo DS or DSi, then you're out of luck. The DigiPower Travel Charger doesn't provide a compatible adapter to charge these Nintendo portable gaming units.

Save Some Power for Later

This portable charger can store unused charge for a long time. I charged it up just after I got it. It took about 4.3 hours to fully charge it, and I didn't use any of its power for a whole week. I checked it this morning to see how much of the unused charge was left, and found all of the lights of the battery gauge lit. So, after a week of no use, it still had the full level of charge stored in it. But I needed real proof of the available charge. I tried my fully dead iPod Touch, PSP, and now I am charging my BlackBerry phone. They were all easy to connect to the charger.

It took 3 hours to charge the iPod and 4.4 hours to charge the PSP. I have been charging the BlackBerry for the last 35 minutes, and it is already 80 percent charged. The battery gauge still has two lights on.
