Casio Exilim EX-H30BK Digital Camera

Review of the Casio Exilim EX-H30BK

Finding the perfect point-and-shoot camera from thousands of different digital camera options is not an easy task. As a reviewer, I judge a point-and-shoot digital camera based on the following features: point-and-shoot capabilities, responsiveness, ease of use, optical zoom, megapixels, battery backup, and durability. Here I review the Casio Exilim EX-H30BK. Read on to see how well it measures up to my requirements.

I inserted the lithium ion battery and the camera was ready to go. It comes with a built-in 34.9 MB flash memory, so I did not need to put a removable SD card in its memory card slot. As I turned the camera on, the lens extended a bit and my room appeared clearly on the 3-inch display.

Justification as a point-and-shoot camera

I took shots of different objects in my room. The pictures looked crisp and clear on the camera screen. But, that was not enough for me. I wanted to see how they looked as printed pictures. I connected the camera to my laptop through the USB port. The photos looked decent on my laptop screen. I printed the best two pictures on photo paper with a Canon printer. The pictures were bright and crisp on paper as well.

As you probably noticed, I did not put a lot of effort into taking these photos. That was intentional. Many consumers of a point-and-shoot camera do not tweak the hundreds of features that come built-in with modern cameras like this. So, this review is based in part of the usage tendencies of compact camera buyers. Another important point: I took the pictures at night. There wasn't much light in the room and my hands were a bit shaky. Even with these less-than-ideal circumstances, the camera stabilized itself and took the pictures correctly. Apparently, the image stabilizer in the camera is quite effective. The flash also did its job well by keeping the whole scene at a uniform brightness. It passed the test as a point-and-shoot digital camera. So when you do not have time to tweak settings on your camera and only have enough time to point and press the shutter button, it is likely that the camera will take decent quality photos.
